Bio:
Cynthia T. Hahn, PhD is a Professor of French at Lake Forest College, Illinois, where she has been teaching French language, and francophone literature and culture courses, including creative writing and translation, since 1990. She is a member of writing groups, including the Deerfield Library Poets, the Highland Park Poets, and the Knollwood Writers. Her first chapbook of original poetry, Outside-In-Sideout, was published in 2010 by Finishing Line Press and her second bilingual volume of poems, Co-ïncidences, in French and English, illustrated by Parisian artist Monique Loubet, is forthcoming with Editions alfAbarre (2014). She has published a number of original poems in French and English in news sources such as The Christian Science Monitor, in literary journals including East on Central, on sites such as Peuplesmonde.com and highlandparkpoets.org, and in literary collections such as La Cendre des mots.
Cynthia Hahn has translated eight novels by Algerian (Noureddine Aba) and Lebanese authors (Evelyne Accad, Ezza Agha Malak), as well as poems and a short story by other francophone authors from Djibouti, France and Tunisia. In addition to fluency in French, Hahn has a working knowledge of Spanish and German as well as conversational Mandarin for regular travel to China. As an Associate Dean of Faculty, Hahn helped found the Lake Forest College program in Beijing, PRC. She is also an avid West African drummer and bass guitar player. The music of languages and cultural immersion perspectives inform her creative work.
